Why We Built This
The HVAC industry relies on two competing standards: British Thermal Units (BTU) in North America and kilowatts (kW) internationally. Converting between them by hand is error-prone and time-consuming, especially on job sites.
We created this tool to be fast, accurate, and free—no login, no tracking, and no unnecessary complexity.
Features
- Instant conversion – Type in one field and see the result immediately.
- Bidirectional – Convert BTU→kW or kW→BTU with equal ease.
- Reference tables – See standard equipment sizes from window units to large commercial systems.
- Zero tracking – All calculations happen in your browser.
- Mobile-friendly – Works on phone, tablet, and desktop.
- Lightweight – Loads fast, uses minimal bandwidth.
Accuracy
We use the standard conversion factor: 1 kW = 3,412.142 BTU/hr. This is derived from the international definitions of the BTU and the watt, and is recognized by industry bodies including the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
